A new film based on a fictional account of the relationship between late Democratic Unionist Party leader Ian Paisley and Sinn Fein’s Martin McGuinness refers to the Enniskillen bombing.
The Journey, which stars Timothy Spall as Mr Paisley and Colm Meaney as Mr McGuinness looks at the way in which the men took “the biggest leap of faith” by agreeing to share power at Stormont.
Colin Bateman from Bangor wrote the film for a Northern Ireland audience and according to the BBC’s Mark Simpson who has seen, it the dialogue refers to the Troubles from Bloody Sunday to the hunger strikes to the Enniskillen bombing in 1987 in which 11 people were killed and 63 were injured.
Writing on the BBC website, journalist Mark Simpson said:
“Indeed at one point Ian Paisley turns to Martin McGuinness and lists one by one the names of everyone killed by the IRA bomb at Enniskillen.”
“Amid the fiction, it is a heavy dose of reality,” wrote Mr. Simpson.
