THE all-new Toyota BZ4X combines the road presence of an SUV with all the benefits of electric.

As I am used to driving medium-sized diesel cars, hopping into a larger vehicle that is fully electric was something of a 'shock' to the system.

But it didn't take long to feel right at home in this dynamic SUV, which features an ultra-modern interior, impeccable handling and unmatched presence on the road.

Taking off from Western Cars in the BZ4X Motion grade, I headed in Teemore direction to see where the road took me.

Indeed, with a powerful electric engine, the first thing to note about the BZ4X is its liveliness.

Equipped with an automatic gearbox, the SUV quickly moves with minimal exertion of the pedal, and immediately gets to work.

The response of this vehicle is a joy, and it's no surprise that 0-60 can be achieved in 7.3 seconds.

This robust SUV can go anywhere from 278 to 318 miles on a single charge.

The day of the test drive was mizzly with intermittent showers, but even in poorer conditions, handling remained solid and steadfast.

As an SUV, the BZ4X is much more imposing than an average car.

With chunky firestone tyres, a length of 4,690mm and a front width of 1,860mm, this vehicle packs a visual punch.

Equally, its size and storage capacity render this SUV an ideal family car, and is equally as suitable for anyone interested in outdoor pursuits, with the optional Toyota Centre Fit pack is an ideal choice to hold bikes, camping gear or outdoor equipment.

Another option - a tow bar - allows an adventurous individual to take things a step further.

The BZ4X is equally at home trekking up the rugged lane of the forest park as it is on the motorway.

Nowadays, the interior of a car is as important as what's underneath the bonnet.

Inside, ample space abounds, with an imposing middle console providing a comfortable armrest, a bulk of storage, wireless phone charger and a beautifully simplistic gear selector.

This seamless interior leads on to an 12.3" HD Toyota screen, equipped with all the bells and whistles including Smart Connect, Multimedia system, Apple CarPlay/Android Auto, Go Navigation.

All-in-all, the Toyota BZ4X left a lasting impression. Combining all the benefits of electric with the size and space of an SUV, those in the market for larger electric vehicle need look no further.
