There has been widespread shock and sadness following the sudden death of Tony Cannon who died suddenly on Saturday, March 23.

Tony was well known across GAA circles for his involvement with St. Patrick's GFC, Donagh and the club posted a statement on their Facebook page, paying tribute to Tony.

"Tony Cannon RIP," the post began before continuing: "St Patricks GFC Committee & Members are devastated by the news of the sudden passing of our beloved clubman Tony Cannon. Our thoughts and prayers are with his sisters Jackie & Loretta and extended family at this time.

"Tony was a dear friend to so many within the Club and Donagh community as he done so much for us all. Tony took great pride in meticulously looking after the club grounds and there wasn’t a match were he wasn’t there lining out the field or cutting the grass on the banks beforehand. He will be dearly missed by us all. Funeral arrangements TBC. May Tony now Rest In Peace," the post concluded.

Hundreds of tributes were shared below the post to Tony from those in the club and other Gaels who knew him.

One such comment was from Mary Sweeney who said: "Just gutted to hear this news last night, Tony u were a true gentleman & I can only say u were my right hand man when I was St Pats Sec, always ready & willing to help any time u were called up on. So sad for all of us lucky enuf to have u as a friend. Deepest sympathies to Letty, Jackie & all the Cannon & Martin families at this time. Rest easy Tony u will be so sorely missed x ❤️."

As a mark of respect the club's clubhouse was closed today, Sunday, and their lotto postponed.
