The installation of a charging point for electric vehicles in Blacklion is set to start this week.

Blacklion joins Cavan Town, Belturbet and Ballyconnell in the installation.

Local Fianna Fáil Cavan County Councillor John Paul Feeley, who welcomed the development, said there is a need for more charging points as electric car usage rises.

Additional charging stations are planned for the Shannon Pot and the Fairgreen in Blacklion in the near future.

He said: "The reality is that we need to ensure that every town and village has electric charging points as well as some of the more heavily visited sites in the Geopark.

"If, as we are told, EVs are the future then the network of charging points needs to be in place to give drivers the reassurance they need as they drive in all parts of the country.

"The installation work should only take about a week to complete, thereafter the charging point has to be connect up by ESB Networks which is likely to take some time."
