Irvinestown 3-17 Tempo 3-14

In a high scoring match on Sunday afternoon, it was the home side who took the points to secure fifth place in the table. The final quarter proved to be decisive for the St Molaise men after a keenly contested game throughout.
The home side raced into an eight point lead in the first quarter with goals from James Duffy and Stephen Sheridan and points from Conor McGuigan and Ronan Ormsby. Damien Kelly got Tempo off the mark on 10 minutes and after Irvinestown got their second goal the visitors responded with three consecutive points. Niall McElroy (free), Ryan Bogue and Tiárnan Bogue, all on target.
With 20 minutes on the clock James Duffy found the net once more, for Tempo’s third. A point from Conor McGuigan stretched their lead to leave the score 3-05 to 0-05. Tempo needed a big response and they delivered. 2-05 without reply brought them right back into the game. Two goals from Damien Kelly and points from Tiárnan Bogue, Conor Meehan and Kelly gave Tempo a two point lead.
Stephen Sheridan brought it back to a one point game at the break, after he landed the final score of the half. The game was perfectly poised for an enthralling second half and it proved to be the case.
The teams traded points early on, Ronan Ormsby and second half substitute Gary Maguire tagged on a couple for Irvinestown while Conor Meehan and Ryan Bogue responded for Tempo.
With 35 minutes on the clock, Tempo broke through for their third goal, courtesy of Tiárnan Bogue this time to put them four points up.
Irvinestown’s response was immediate, hitting four points to draw level and the game hung in the balance. Duffy kicked two of those points while Gary Maguire landed a free and Ronan Campbell made it 3-12 apiece.
For the final quarter it was all Irvinestown, Campbell, Maguire, McGuigan and Rory Cassidy were all on target as they pulled away from Tempo.
The visitors could only manage a point on 56 minutes from Damien Kelly but it was not enough in the end, with a goal separating the teams at the final whistle.
Tempo who have only managed one win so far are propping up the table. Their Manager, Sean Breen said:
“We know now that we’re going to be in the bottom two, so we’ll be approaching games as challenge matches from here on and using them to work on a few things.
“We still have a lot of work to do before the championship. We are improving but we have lost that many games that we’re out of the habit of winning and when the going gets tough we tend to crumble.
“Things will get better though and we’ll keep our eyes on that Intermediate championship match against Enniskillen.”
For Tempo, Ryan Bogue and Conor Meehan were most impressive while Irvinestown had fine performances from Ronan Campbell at midfield, Conor McGuigan and James Duffy.
The introduction of Gary Maguire played a large part in the home side’s victory as well.
