Enniskillen Rangers 2 Killen Rangers 0

Enniskillen Rangers made it seven points out of nine in the league and ascended to second place in the table following a 2-0 win over Killen Rangers that was somewhat easier than the scoreline suggested.
Despite the early morning deluge of rain the Ball Range surface was perfect and both teams tried to play football throughout.
Rangers dominated the game, created any number of chances but only really made the game safe when Darren Higginbotham pounced for the second goal ten minutes before the end.
Manager Michael Kerr was happy to get the three points but admitted that his team had not played as well as they had in the Junior Cup win.
The game started in bright fashion with William Burleigh and James Turley heading over while at the other end Adam Buchanan volleyed over the Enniskillen bar at the back post.
Mark Cutler was causing lots of problems down the right side with his pace and powerful running and he almost broke the deadlock on two occasions. First he shot across the goal and wide while soon after his shot come cross just eluded the in-rushing Andy Johnston.
Rangers did take the lead soon after and it was from the right side but this time it was full back Davy Crozier who pushed up and delivered an inch perfect cross for Burleigh to power the header past David Ward for 1-0.
From there to the half time whistle, Rangers could have increased their advantage but some good Killen defending and goalkeeping from David Ward denied them on more than one occasion.
Mark Cutler had a shot saved and as the ball ricocheted about the box Burleigh’s follow up was also saved.
Andy Johnston had the clearest chance before half time when played in by the excellent Matty Chambers but he shot straight at Ward from the edge of the box.
The half ended with a free flowing move involving Turley, Burleigh and Crozier but Johnston effort at the back post was again saved by Ward.
The second  half continued in a similar vein, Rangers pushing and missing chances but at 1-0 Killen were always in the game.
The closest they came to scoring was from a Crozier back pass that Carleton mis-controlled and he pounced on the ball before it crossed the line.
Killen’s appeal for a goal was rightly waved away by referee James Farrell but they had a legitimate claim for an indirect free kick inside the box which was not given.
Rangers made the game safe not long after. Willie Burleigh played in Cutler and he did well to win the ball before laying it off to  Higginbotham who fired low to the net for 2-0.
Substitute Chris Currie hit the post with a fine effort as the game ended 2-0 and a deserving win for Enniskillen in the battle of the Rangers.
