The Knocks Duathlon proved to be another good success, this growing annual event attracting over 100 competitors with local man Gregory Murphy coming out on top as he was the first man home.
This community event is proving more and more popular every year and one of the organisers, Martin Carey, was delighted with how Saturday’s event went.
“It was a great day,” explained Martin. “There was over 100 competitors and the numbers are increasing every year. We managed to dodge the worst of the weather and it was a real community effort to stage the event which also attracts people to our area.”
The duathlon comprised a 5K run followed by a 20K bike ride before the endurance event ended with another 5K run, all staged within the Knocks area.
Gregory Murphy was the first man home in a superb time of one hour 25 minutes, two minutes clear of Kenny Boylan in second with Seamus McGovern in third. Aoibheann Bartley was first woman home in a time of one hour and 39 minutes while top junior was the excellent Patrick King, the 15-year-old finishing in one hour and 56 minutes.
In the team events, Shane Brady and Gerry McGuigan from Clones won with a time of one hour and 22 minutes from Seamus McMahon and Denise Toner in second with Malcolm Browne and Gerry McGurk in third.
In the family team section, it was the Little family from Lisnaskea who were celebrating as Jonathan and Rodney completed the course in a time of one hour and 29 minutes.
