• The new NIFL Championship season got under way in August. Ballinamallard started with a 0-0 draw away to Ballyclare Comrades and it was followed by another three draws during the month.

• The Fermanagh and Western season also commenced and there were bright starts for champions Tummery Athletic and Enniskillen Town as they both won their opening four games in August.

• Scott Robinson parted ways with NFC Kesh in August and was replaced by Ryan Campbell, who took on a player-manager role.

• The cricket season drew to a close and there was silverware for North Fermanagh, who won the Division Three league title with victory away to Bready. However, their hopes of a league and cup double were dashed as they lost the Division Three Cup final to Burndennett.

• There was heartbreak for Fermanagh Ladies in their All-Ireland Junior Final replay in Armagh. Antrim had the better of things on this occasion as the Saffrons ran out 3-15 to 0-11 victors.

• On the GAA club scene, the first major title of the year went the way of Erne Gaels as they lifted the Division One title with a slender one-point victory over Kinawley, 0-11 to 0-10.

• The Division Two title went the way of Irvinestown who produced a strong finish to see off Belcoo, 1-15 to 0-15.

• Sophia and Patrick Williams both impressed at the Pony Club Senior Regionals Tetrathlon and Senior International Tetrathlon in Somerset. Sophia was selected in the UK squad, while Patrick was in the Ireland squad for the event.

• At the Fermanagh Junior Tennis Championships, Eve Callaghan and Carla Smith were among the local winners.

• Fermanagh swimmer Ellie McCartney made her Senior Ireland debut at the European Championships in Rome.

• Lee Johnston was a winner again at the Isle of Man as he claimed victory in the Senior Classic Race at the Manx Grand Prix.

• Josh Elliott dominated matters at Dunlop Masters Superbike Championship round at Mondello. Elliott claimed four wins at the event.

• The new rugby season also got under way and there was a big win for Clogher Valley against Carrickfergus, although Enniskillen opened up with defeat to CIYMS.

• In golf, Patricia Durnien won Lady Captain’s Day while Barbara Thompson was the winner of the Lady President’s Prize at Enniskillen. Michael McGoldrick was the winner of Captain’s Day at Fintona, and John Southam won the President’s Prize at Castle Hume.

• Fintona Golf Club won the Ulster North Mixed Foursomes title.
