Enniskillen’s Eve Callaghan was in superb form as she secured the Hafner’s Ulster Senior & Masters Open 2023 - a top tier Irish ranking tournament that was played in Belfast Boat Club.

Players from across the country attended to earn valuable Irish ranking points.

Enniskillen’s Eve Callaghan was one of the many contesting for the top spot.

Fresh out of junior tennis, Eve is keen to continue the amazing success she has had on the national junior tour.

The senior tour is equally as competitive but Eve continues to put in the hard work with her training to ensure that she is able to compete at the highest national level.

Her coach Matthew McGann is very impressed that Eve is still training with the same intensity that she always has despite moving from junior tennis into the seniors.

That training proved invaluable in the ladies singles semi finals. She played the number 2 seed Christine Duncan. Christine brings experience and tactical play that would be sure to set up an exciting encounter.

Eve went into the match with a clear plan. She moved Christine from left to right and targeted her backhand. Despite Christine’s best efforts Eve proved to be too strong on this occasion and won 6/3 6/4.

The final was set up to be an incredible battle against Belfast player Jessica Leeman who is just home from an American tennis scholarship.

Jessica went into the match as the favourite and the number 1 seed.

Eve was not intimidated at all and used her trademark backhand to great effect in the first set and stunned everyone by taking the set 6/4. In the second set Jessica stepped up and threw everything at Eve and took the second set 6/4.

The now level match came down to the final set.

An enthralled crowd watched as Eve bravely changed tactics and used the new third set tennis balls to great effect.

Eve used a mixture of power and precision to win the final set and the championships 6/1. In the final speech the tournament director paid tribute to the incredible talent this Enniskillen Tennis Club player has. With more tournaments on the way this will be a busy and hopefully successful summer for Eve.
